Kota Kinabalu’s DEATHEVOKER is one of my favourite Malaysian death metal bands. Their song ‘Thirst of the Guillotine’ is featured in the Banana Punk Rawk Trails CD sampler.
Hear more of their remorse-less tunes here… ‘The Silence’. I love the punk-powered, galloping drum work here. Definitely a band to keep an eye – or an eye socket – well open upon as you cruise through the global metal wasteland. After having split releases with the likes of Mark Riddick’s FETID ZOMBIE, a new platter is in the works.
Damn CDs and their limits in duration, as this meant that one of my favourite Malaysian bands, COMA, could not fit in. Their mammooth extended stony-drony suites were just too long to be featured in the CD included with the book.
Well, I am making it up to them here. Sit back. Relax. Free your minds. And enjoy the gloom.
Dance! On Your Grave from Kuching, Sarawak are a great band, and one of the few female-fronted Malaysian punk combos. They also represent well the existence of a more melodic side to Malaysia’s otherwise very extreme punk and metal.
‘Paper Guns’ is one of their older, catchier songs. The video is funny as hell. Malaysia is full of these 24-hours convenience stores, and the band’s idea of rocking into one is just original, authentic and classic.
If any of you remembers bands like The Loudmouths and Aerobitch, well, that’s the territory. You will hear D!OYG‘s song ‘Civil Disorder’ in the Banana Punk Rawk Trails compilation.
